They can’t be too far out of the area of the cemetery where they believed they would find them. It’s only 25 minutes from the parking lot. This would suggest whoever may have killed them could have lived in the area so that would indicate the bodies of these two women could be somewhere around the vicinity of Lewisville lake since Ritter cemetary is at the southern tip of it. What do we know about Kevin and where he lived / worked, hung out etc?
I posted the articles for Susan and Stacie, so I will provide some insight to your questions.
With respect to Kevin, he was interviewed and polygraphed but passed; was Susan’s ex-boyfriend and known by many in their circles; is likely still considered a person of interest; and his last known/current address is well publicized in online sleuth forums so I’m sure Carrollton PD is aware too.
Ritter Cemetery was searched in a joint effort by Carrollton PD and Denton County agencies after Kevin made his statements, but nothing was found. That cemetery has been maintained by a non-profit since the early 1970s. So, if earth had been significantly disturbed in or around the cemetery to bury two bodies it would likely have been very noticeable. No details are known as to the extent of the overall area searched.
Going into unsubstantiated speculation…..the Corps of Engineers land around Ritter Cemetery is roughly 5 square miles. So, it is possible that the whole area was searched given that isn’t a lot to canvas. Could something have been missed? Absolutely. Overall, Lake Lewisville covers over 29,500 acres with 233 miles of shoreline. In 1988, a large portion of lakefront property had homes on it. Undeveloped property since that time has been developed for many years so, if something were buried in the ground far away from the cemetery it would probably have been found by now. Additionally, there are numerous day use and camping areas around the lake and it has always been super popular destination during the summer months. So, in theory, short of being buried it is reasonable, in my opinion, to assume that someone would have noticed bodies floating in the lake or hidden in a public use area.
However, I do believe as the police have stated that the girls left the parking lot on their own free will. In 1988, in the area of the parking lot and all along Forest Lane, it was still a very popular cruising and hangout destination for students on the weekends. So, it stands to reason that if they had been forcefully abducted someone surely would have heard or seen something.
Carrollton Police have released little details about this case other than what already exists in the public domain.
