Case details along with a photo of Jacob can be found HERE
Read some comments that made this case sound odd.
I did some more research on this case and I found somethings that might be helpful.
Veronica Seals did a radio show on Jacob Riggs and someone else missing in Sweet Home. She has been continuously collect any information that someone has to offer. I believe I read that she had a text message from Jacob to someone else and read it out loud. I believe this is the link for that show.

Kayla Smith has more information on the case and looks like she had been ignored or not taken seriously by police unfortunately. She did say that she is still willing to talk and share the information she has.
Bayli Riggs is his cousin and she has been looking for answers to many questions and has tried to share as much as she could also.
Lacey Riggs is the mother of his kids and they lived together. States that his mother did the funeral without his children present. She also claims that the family has been sweeping it under the rug.
Stephen Pennington is also continuously working on the case with several others. He claimed that Jacob’s parents have deleted his Facebook or any other online existence he may have had. He also stated that someone named Rebecca was texted by Jacob about a fight with his dad just before and that the mother was stating their was suicide texts but the girl states that wasn’t true.
@Detective_Aaron Is there a way we can get media coverage and possibly more police information on this case? It seems that someone might be keeping this quiet for some reason. Flyers, posts, photos, and lot more has been taken down like this is even a case.
A child that committed suicide would bring a lot of attention to those parents. I’m just saying, the behaviors described in the radio interview I heard of his parents seems very self grandiose and might indicate some level of animosity toward their son. They seemed like heavy attention seeking parents. I think wherever this case goes, I think the secret is probably going to be with them somewhere. I’m not saying they killed him, but it’s a little peculiar.
Be very cautious speculating about family and your opinions of their actions and what you think they mean. I don’t think unsolved cases are served by that level of theorizing and are best served by getting traction on hard fact patterns.
Good suggestions. We will work on getting this case page detailed out with the pertinent facts. If the details you described are happening with flyers being torn down, a good way to combat that are distributing virtual flyers with targeted Facebook advertising. This is exactly what our platform and donations we receive can help pay for. Stay tuned!
I specialize in the behavior patterns of people. That’s what I do. I’m not speculating. I observe things that are significant about an individual’s behavior which at times can be useful with understanding the motive behind a crime. I understand hard evidential facts are what solves a case. But learning about criminals and their behavior patterns to identify motive behind crimes can teach us about the commonalities we might see in other criminals from time to time to help stop or solve similar crimes in future criminals based on what we’ve learned from similar criminal behaviors of past cases.
Your observations boil down to opinions and they don’t get to come at the expense of real people who may not have anything to do with a case and could be secondary victims. A public forum is not the appropriate place to exercise your practice of making observational opinions.
The conclusion of your posts still result in opinions and theories and not facts, so just keep that in mind as you post publicly about peoples perceived behavior.
The benefits from open discussions on unsolved cases is the collaborative work that can result in real fact patterns. Cases like John Doe | Harshaw, Wisconsin can be solved with a hive mindset breaking down details of the ring. Cases like Althedia Vernon Vaught | Tulsa, OK have positive discussion zeroing in on the logo on the side of the door and it’s relation to the City of Tulsa. Fugitive cases like Phillip J. Kenley can benefit from creative attention to their wanted status to flush them out of the dark. There is tremendous value in community discussion in that way.
What isn’t helpful is public speculation insinuating that parents are responisble or connecting to something without a supporting fact pattern. Can you keep in the back of your mind and considered while you evaluate things? Sure! But caution is expected in public speculation.
Thanks for the engaging dialog!
I have reached out to Veronica and she is going to send over the information they have on this case since they work with the community and others. I will send it to you directly once I have received the information.
We’ve updated the case page details. Let us know if you see anything else that should be included.
Jake’s friend Stephen P. asked that I added this in formation to the case info
-
His dad was the last person to see him and they got into a physical fight
-
His mom changed the story 3 different times and didn’t even come home from California to start looking for him
-
The sheriff at the time was friends with his parents and the sheriff purposely searched the wrong part of the lake(this is confirmed by the people that came out with their sonar stuff)
-
His mom deleted his Facebook and asked people to take any and all pictures down of him
-
His parents just bought land at the time he went missing and his dad was seen covered in dirt head to toe with a shovel in his truck
The information shared from a friend lacks specific detail to support it being validated.
Who saw Jacob physically fighting with his father?
Who or where was his mom changing her story?
Who are the “sonar people” that can confirm they were in the “wrong part of the lake”? What’s the “right” part of the lake
Who saw his dad dirty with a shovel? Is that not common for someone on new pieces of land? Why is that suspicious? Doesn’t that contradict the believe that he was in water and searched were misguided?
If he was buried on his dad’s land why would law enforcement be “misguiding” sonar searches?
These reports are getting a little wild and you have to consider that a red flag and proceed cautiously. Sticking with the facts of a case are important and speculation can be very dangerous.
