This podcast episode was great. Sad to hear what they have all gone through. The impact of unsolved homicides are not solely measured in years or in the depth of the grief the family feels, but in the emotional and psychological consequences. Catrina is an amazing advocate!

Thank you! You are absolutely right about the psychological and emotional turmoil. It’s not a visible wound people see often but internally can be devastating and have long term detrimental consequences.

I just found this case and began reading. I’ve been studying contemporary criminology for about 12 years. My focus of interest has always been some of the worst serial killers of our history. I’ve studied most of the big ones as well as their crimes. There’s a couple things here (based on the small amount of details available) that interest me. This isn’t a pretty subject but sometimes even the smallest things can reveal some clues when there may be a sexual angle to the crime. The 2 belts around the neck was interesting as well as the sheet. We’ve seen similar details in the cases of Jean Devier and BTK. They both covered the faces of their victims, and both victims were strangled. The extra belt on the outside of the bed sheet might indicate that he got tired. Ed Kemper revealed how difficult it is to strangle someone to death so that may be the reason for the second belt. Jean Devier couldn’t actually finish the strangulation so he used a large rock, but then covered the victims head with her clothing as if he was ashamed of what he has done. The other thing that interested me was that her sister 8 years later was also “violently” murdered. I think it’s a bit thin to claim these two murders are unrelated because these killers often build infatuations or obsessions with people as if they are their dolls. Ed Kemper said most of these compulsive killers will take trophies and return to their crime scenes to keep their victims a part of them forever as if the crime scenes are a holy sacred place for them. If this man had an infatuation with Catherine, I think it’s completely possible he could have later developed an obsession with her sister Joann maybe even just because she was Catherine’s sister. 5 miles from where Catherine was found could also indicate that he wanted the 2 crime scenes to be close together where he wouldn’t have to travel very far to revisit both locations. Offer some of these details and maybe something will turn up. I wonder after they arrested the suspect for the murder of Joann if any other bodies were found after that. I wish you the best of luck in finding out the truth and bringing some peace of mind to the family.

I have to agree with you that her being nude, the 2 belts, the sheet and her not wearing her glasses should definitely be looked at it being sexually motivated. She wouldn’t have been able to drive to the location her body was found without her glasses and I don’t see why she would strip down nude, put not only one belt but a second one over a sheet if it was a cocaine overdose as it was suggested. I also don’t see her doing those things if it was suicide. This definitely seems like a homicide that was poorly handled just because she had friends in the Dallas drug scene.
